History of Sanak Harbor

Name derived from Sanak Island and reported by US@C&GS in 1919. This harbor is shown on a sketch published by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 24), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), entitled "Ochyerk Gavanina NW Stor O(stro) va Sannakh" meaning "Sketch of the harbor in the northwest part of the island of Sannakh." The US@C&GS misinterpreted this title and published the name Acherk (sketch) Harbor on Charts 817 and 8901 in 1875.
