History of Knik River

Eskimo name meaning "fire (igniq)" reported by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 6) Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), as "reka Knyk." Present spelling was reported by George Davidson, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), in 1869 Coast Pilot (p. 190).
