History

Named in 1885 by Lieutenant Allen (1887, p. 59), USA, for the Sanford family; his great-grandfather was Reuben Sanford. It was first climbed July 21, 1938 by Terris Moore and Bradford Washburn (Farquhar, 1959, p. 230).
