About this tour

This day hike begins with a helicopter ride up to the alpine of the Chugach mountains behind Valdez. From there we begin a two-mile journey exploring along the way, taking in the sights and enjoying the isolation. The hiking is fairly easy for most experienced hikers, however there is no trail, and hiking can contain side hilling, about 500ft of scree crossing, and uneven terrain. Balance and good ankles are recommended. In early June the route can contain snowfields.

We have had two groups, one in their 60's and another in their 70's who called for an early pick up about 3/4 through the hike.

Animal sightings on this tour can include; mountain goat, bear, marmot, arctic ground squirrel, pika, ermine, ptarmigan and eagles.
