February 27, 1899 - Hiking Fatality at Valdez Glacier

Valdez Glacier,

Lead by Dr. Logan; Miller, Ebehardt, August Schultz, Rudolph Ellerkamp of Louisville, Kentucky, and Alfred Ellimar; were approaching Valdez from Klutina Glacier while hauling Maximillian Miller and Adolph Ebehardt, who were sick with scurvy. They died while getting caught in a snowstorm on Valdez Glacier.

"The party had become scattered when the storm broke and the two sick men were found tied on the sled, but frozen stiff, while the others were found a short distance away, where they had tried to seek shelter in a crevice only to die."

The bodies of Miller, Ebehardt, Schultz, Ellerkamp, and Ellimar, were found by a search party lead by Dempsey and Jackson. They were brought back to Valdez and buried at the little graveyard in the western part of town.

On June 27, 1913, Rose Johnson found a body on the glacier that was believed to be the remains of Dr. Logan.
