July 20, 2024 - Plane Piloting Fatality at Fairweather Range

Samuel “Sam” Wright, of Haines along with Hans Munich and Tanya Hutchins of Yakutat went missing on a flight from Jueanu to Yakutat. As of August 1, 2024 it is assumed that the plane went down around 10,000ft on Mount Crillon. The preliminary report says that an aerial search on Aug. 5 revealed “portions of highly fragmented airplane wreckage” at about 6,200 feet — more than 4,500 feet below the area where authorities believed the plane initially crashed, according to the federal report.
