Red-necked grebes have black caps, with a spiked crown off the back of the head. They have whiteish cheeks and chestnut-reddish necks and breast that blend in to dark gray to blackish bodies.
Red-necked grebes can be found throughout most of Alaska, though seldom seen along Arctic coast. They mostly move to the pacific coast of Alaska for winter.
