History of Revillagigedo Island

Named August 13, 1793, by Captain Vancouver, Royal Navy (RN), for Don Juan Vicente de Guemes Pacheco de Pedilla, Count of Revilla Gigedo and Viceroy of Mexico, 1789-94. "He (Vancouver) was no doubt influenced by the fact that Caamano the year before had given the name to an adjoining channel" (Wagner, 1937, p. 405).
