History of Little Diomede Island

in the late 1800's this island was commonly known as "Little Diomede," which was derived from the collective name of both islands named in 1728 by Vitus Bering. (1831, p. 247) named it "Krusenstern," after the Russian Admiral (Adam Johann von) Krusenstern. Martin Sauer (1802, p. 258), was "Imaglin"; Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 1), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), records the name as "Ingalyuk."
