History

Eskimo name reported by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in 1949; named for the nearby Kukpowruk River. This passage is, however, referred to as "Keeverleek (Kivirlik)" meaning "further in" at Point Hope and as Singuk at Wainwright.
