Getting There

For information on how to get to East Grapefruit Rocks check out Grapefruit Rocks.

The hike up to East Grapefruit Rocks (also referred to as Upper Grapefruit rocks cause it's higher elevation) can be hot and dry. Even though it's not a long trek, you can become parched even halfway up the trail. Be sure to bring plenty of water. There are two trails up from the parking lot. One at the very end of the parking lot, as you get close to the highway. This one brings you up and around the face/highway side of East Grapefruit Rocks. The other less traveled one, is about halfway down the parking lot and takes you back away from the highway and is a longer trek before reaching climbing rock. Each go different ways but interconnect along the top.

Another advantage Upper Grapefruit has is usually once you're on the wall there is a favorable breeze to cool not chill, and keep bugs away. It has lots of rock climbing routes with ratings in the scope of beginners to intermediate. Face it if you're a rock climber stuck in Fairbanks it's just nice to be on some actual rock.

The nice thing about climbing at Grapefruit Rocks is most of the top chain anchors are accessible by hiking up and around the walls. So for the people who don't like lead climbing it offers a quick sprint and fun repel. Most of the routes have sport gear in place if you want to set the route too.

Many of the climbing walls and routes are named but we're lacking the proper identification at this time.
