Wickersham Dome Trail in Detail.

Getting There

Drive to 28 mile Elliot Highway, it's a right hand turn just as the highway rounds the top of the hill.

The trailheads begin at the large parking lot. There is a restroom and trashcans. The Summit Trail trailhead is at north end of the parking lot right straight in from the road. The Wickersham Creek Trail trailhead is at the south/rear of the parking lot near the restroom. The Ski Loop Trail can be started from either trailhead.

About

Wickersham Dome Trail is an enjoyable alpine hike north of Fairbanks. It's considered one of the nicest hikes outside of Fairbanks due to its alpine setting, long views, low crowds, and mild terrain. The trail is clearly defined and is usually void of much mud.

It begins in short boreal spruce forest and quickly opens to the alpine. There are a couple junctions along the trail if wishing to go back around the dome.

In late summer it makes for excellent lowbush blueberry picking.
