Getting There

Drive out the Glenn Highway east of Palmer, west of Glennallen. It the most prominent mountain south of the Matanuska River, a couple miles west of Chickaloon. Park along the side of the road and cross the river. There is no bridge.

Kings Mountain is an easily climbable mountain that can be done in a full day. Winter climbing can be faster than a summer summit as there is less bush whacking and can be better footing.

History

Name used by prospectors; reported about 1905 by G. C. Martin, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). junction of the Kings River and the Matanuska River.

Naming: Kings Mountain was a name used by prospectors, after Al King, a prospector who had a cabin at the junction of Kings River and the Matanuska River. The name was recorded around 1905 G. C. Martin of the USGS.
