History

Reported and defined in 1898 by Spurr (1900, p. 239), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The name was derived from the Kuskokwim River which flows through the range. Spurr (p. 70) applied the name "Tanana Hills" to the low mountains at the northeast end of what are now the Kuskokwim Mountains. See Kuskokwim Bay.
