History

Local name reported in 1954 by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The lake formed in 1953 as a result of a deluge, an earthquake, and a landslide that blocked the channel of Stony Creek. The lake drained out in 1988 and is now a dry lake bed interspersed with channels.
