Comprising the E end of the Aleutian Islands between the Alaska Peninsula, to the E, and the Islands of Four Mountains, to the W, and extending from Isanotski Strait SW about 290 mi to Samalga Pass; includes Samalga, Umnak, Unalaska, and Unimak Islands and the Krenitzin Islands along with other smaller islands.

History
Named in the eighteenth century by the Russian explorers and fur traders.
