native name published as "Anayachtalak Island" by Sauer (1802, p. 169); as "Anayakhtakh" by Lieutenant Sarichev (1826, map 3), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN); as "Ajanahtack" by Admiral von Krusenstern (1827, map 17), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN); as "Anayakhtaky" (Anayakhtalik) by the Russian American Company in 1849; and as "Goose Island" by Petroff (1884, p. 31) in the 10th Census, in 1880.
