About

Located west of Resurrection Peninsula, between Eldorado Narrows and Resurrection Bay, 4 km (2.5 mi) north-northwest of Cape Resurrection, 14 miles southeast of Seward, Chugach Mountains.

History

U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported the local name in 1904 as "Lowell Island," and U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) gave the local name as "Fox Island" in 1905. Because both these names "are much duplicated" the Board on Geographic Names (BGN) officially bestowed the present name in 1906; it means "fox" in French.
