History

Named in 1879 by W. H. Dall, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), for Master James Johnstone, Royal Navy (RN), one of the companions of Captain George Vancouver. The name was published in the 1883 Alaska Coast Pilot (p. 209).
