American Bittern (Botaurus lentiginosus) is a short stocky bird. Brown with beige bars running down it's length. They stand up to 33 inches tall and weigh as much as 2 pounds. They are active around sunset and dusk.

American Bitterns are found around wetlands feeding on amphibians, insects, and fish.

American Bitterns usually lay 2-3 eggs which take nearly a month before hatching.
