About

on E coast of Sullivan I., in Lynn Canal, 35 mi. S of Skagway, Coast Mts.

History

So named in 1868 by Commander R. W. Meade, U.S. Navy (USN), because it was here that the American schooner Louisa Downs was wrecked in 1867 and six persons were rescued by the U.S.S. Saginaw, which Meade commanded (U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, 1891, p. 196).
