History

Eskimo name reported by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in 1950. It was called "Woody Inlet" by English naval officers about 1850. Sergeant John Murdoch reported the Eskimo name as "Kuahru" (Ray, P. H., 1885, p. 95).
