About

Great Kobuk Sand Dunes are the remains of a larger sand dune of the past, its sibling dunes are the Little Kobuk Sand Dunes and the Hunt River Dunes. The remaining dunes cover an area of 20,500 acres, roughly 32 square miles. The dunes lie 25 miles north of the Arctic Circle inside Kobuk Valley National Park.

Some of the dunes in the Great Kobuk Sand Dunes rise over 100ft high and is the largest active sand dune in arctic North America.

A large caribou herd of around half a million pass by the dunes on their migration.
