Getting There

Located around Miles 13-15 on the Park Road, you can either drive to Savage River and park for the day, or you can board a free Savage River Shuttle, from any entrance area facility.

For shuttle times check: Denali Shuttle Buses.

If taking your own vehicle, drive into Denali Park on Park Road and go until the bridge that crosses Savage River. That's as far as private vehicles can go. Before you cross the bridge there is a parking lot on your right.

About

The most common place to begin the hike it at the river. It allows for hikers to gain altitude and views in the least amount of time. Beginning from the river you gain around 900ft elevation in the first mile. For the rusty hiker you may need to pause a couple times before making the ridge.

Once on the ridge it's a gentle hike along the ridge, then following the side of the mountain, before descending down back to the valley and Savage Campground.
