About

Commonly reffered to as Three Guardsman by the Haines locals. Most likely because Three Guardsman Lake sits at the base of Glave Peak. Glave Peak is a hot spot for great hike up snowboarding and skiing. It has the fresh light powder and great views Haines backcountry is known for. To get there from Haines you head out the Haines Highway, now you'll need a passport to ride this mountain because it lies in Canada. We've chosen to include the mountain anyways because it's a popular destination for near by Alaskans.

Once you head through the Pleasant Camp, Canadian border, you head about 8 or 9 miles till the road levels out and begins to head a bit down hill. It's hard to miss as it's such a dominant peak. Drive just past the end of the lake and pull off the road. In late winter early spring it's usually safe to ride across the lake as it is frozen over and has several feet of snow. Often the locals take a snow machine and save themselves the 1/4 mile hike to the base. You'll want to ride the west face because wind sometimes scrapes the good powder on the south face that runs parallel to the highway and dumps more on the west face.

Hike up, ride down, do it again. Over and over and over. Be careful as it is possible to trigger small avalanches.
