History

Aleut name used by early Russian explorers along with the name "Chugul." of 1855, reported its Aleut name as "Tchougoule (or Tschechovla)" and also called it "Iron Island." A. J. von Krusenstern, Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), called "Dawydoff" in 1827.
