About

History

Named in 1914 by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) for the former Eskimo village of Mumtrak, which was at its base. The name was published in 1915 on Chart 9103. The Eskimo name of the hill, "Kamguvluagvik," was obtained at Goodnews about 1951 by J. M. Hoare, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
