Flat fish spend much of their time resting on the sea floor. Most species of flat fish have both eyes on one side of their head. Typically a flat fish will being with an eye on each side of the head but the eye will travel around or through the head as the fish develops, with the eye finally resting on the resting vertical side of the head. Another distinguishing features include dorsal fin extending to the head, the side of the fish with the eyes will be colored to match the sea bed while the other side will be often a solid light to white color.

Flat fish are often considered a tasty fish.
