History

Named in 1889 by Lieutenant Commander H. B. Mansfield, U.S. Navy (USN), and published by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in 1891 Coast Pilot (p. 142). "So named because of the sunken rocks and ledges along it (the point of land)."
