History

Native name published in French as "C(ap) Ighiack" by von Krusenstern (1827, map 17); published in 1847 in Russian as "M(ys) Igisk" on Russian Hydrographic Dept. Chart 1378. Locally called Cape "U-gai-yak" according to W. H. Dall, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS); published as "Cape Ugyak" in 1888 by U.S. Bureau of Fisheries (USBF).
